The Arctic

1. The Arctic region doesn't just consist of the Arctic Ocean it also is made up of parts of Russia, Greenland, Canada, the USA, Norway, Iceland, Sweden and Finland.
2. In Greece the word Arctic means near the bear.

3. Only a few speicies of plants and animal are hardy enough to survive growing in the Arctic. Some of the plants include mosses, lichens and small shrubs. Some of the animals are polar bears, wolverines, squirrels, birds, walruses and seals.
4. There isn't any land beneath the ice of the Arctic.

5. There are two north and two south poles. The imaginary axes on which the Earth spins forms the North and South Terrestrial Poles is also known as Geographic Poles. The other poles are called the Magnetic Poles. Compasses point towards the Northern Magnetic Pole.
The Antarctic
1. In Grease the word Antarctica comes from a word which means opposite to the north.

2. The content of Antarctic is nearly twice the size of Australia.
3. Almost 90%of the world's ice is found in Antarctica.
4. If all the ice in the Antarctic melted sea levels around the world would rise about 65m.

6. Antarctica is the 5th largest continent in the world but has a population of 0 people.
